At the time, £24m seemed like a steep fee to pay for a player more renowned for his endeavour and versatility than magical moments but in time James Milner proved to be well worth that outlay.
Milner spent five excellent seasons with City helping the club establish itself as a major force in English football by winning four major trophies including two Premier League titles.
He was by no means the most glitzy or glamorous signing in the Mansour era but he was certainly one of the most consistent.
9. Aleksandar KolarovManchester City appearances: 247
Manchester City goals: 21

An enigma of a player. Aleksandar Kolarov has polarised opinion throughout his seven-year stay in English football, excelling when going forward but often found wanting defensively.
However, when the Serbian does eventually move on from the Etihad he will be fondly remembered by the Citizens support thanks to his penchant for scoring the odd long-range thunderbolt rather than his propensity to screw up defensively.
8. Edin DzekoManchester City appearances: 189
Manchester City goals: 72

It took Edin Dzeko a while to find the prolific form that characterised his spell with Wolfsburg, however following a tricky opening six months he found his feet, becoming an extremely useful squad player.
While he was permanently in the shadow of Sergio Aguero as the club’s leading marksman, Dzeko proved to be a more than capable foil for the Argentine, particularly in the 2013-14 season when his 16 league goals helped City win the Premier League.
7. Nigel De JongManchester City appearances: 137
Manchester City goals: 2

Not everyone’s cup of tea, it would be fair to say, in no small part due to his karate kick into the popular Xabi Alonso’s chest while playing for Holland against Spain in the 2010 World Cup final.
Nigel De Jong was a tenacious player who played on the very edge but he was an invaluable member of the side under Roberto Mancini providing a tough-tackling, snarling presence in the engine room during their early trophy-winning successes.
6. FernandinhoManchester City appearances: 183
Manchester City goals: 17

Not an awful lot was known of Fernandinho when Manchester City spent north of £30m to lure him away from Ukrainian football in 2013 but he has gone on to be an inspired acquisition in subsequent seasons.
The Brazilian’s partnership alongside Yaya Toure in City’s central midfield was pivotal to their Premier League title success under Manuel Pellegrini and he has continued to be an integral member of the side during Pep Guardiola’s tenure.
5. Kevin de BruyneManchester City appearances: 90
Manchester City goals: 23

A creative genius who flourished in German football with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg after being shunned by Chelsea, Kevin De Bruyne returned to English football in 2015, joining Manchester City in a club-record £55m deal.
Injury problems aside, the Belgian playmaker hit the ground running in his second spell in the Premier League, immediately becoming a talismanic figure in the final third thanks to his probing passes and goalscoring prowess.
He may well move up this list if he continues to his current ascent at the Etihad.
4. Carlos TevezManchester City appearances: 148
Manchester City goals: 73

A game-changing recruit. For years, Manchester City fans had to endure the taunts of their rivals as United set about becoming the dominant force in English football, but the signing of Carlos Tevez hinted that the playing field was levelling out.
After being marginalised during his final season at Old Trafford, Tevez appeared hell bent to prove himself all over again, becoming City;s talisman and captain soon after his arrival and winning the FA Cup and Premier League.
A six-month self-imposed exile aside, he was a phenomenon at the Etihad and helped usher in a period of success at the club.
3. Yaya ToureManchester City appearances: 299
Manchester City goals: 79

Quite frankly, you could make a case for Yaya Toure being the greatest signing of the Mansour-era, he has been that good.
The closest player to Patrick Vieira over the past decade, Toure was signed as a defensive midfielder from Barcelona but transformed into a barnstorming, unstoppable colossus in a box-to-box role.
Little did anyone know the Ivorian could finish too, as he demonstrated most clearly in 2013-14 when he scored 20 league goals to fire the Citizens to their second title.
One of the Premier League’s all-time great midfielders, he’d probably be further up this list if he hadn’t had periods out of the team for various reasons.
2. Sergio AgueroManchester City appearances: 253
Manchester City goals: 169

A truly phenomenal strike rate that would have been even better had the diminutive Argentine managed to steer clear of the injuries that have hampered his time in Manchester.
For a few years, Sergio Aguero was far and away the most prolific striker in the Premier League and he has led City’s attack for what feels like an eternity under a variety of different managers.
Plenty of his strikes have been important ones too, none more so than that career-defining finish against QPR on the final day of the 2011-12 campaign that handed City their first-ever Premier League title.
1. David SilvaManchester City appearances: 306
Manchester City goals: 51

It takes some player to finish ahead of players as talented and influential as Toure and Aguero but David Silva has been the conductor of the orchestra, making City tick with his peerless passing ability.
A goal return of one every six games is an impressive record but it is Silva’s century of assists that sets him apart; he is without a doubt one of the most gifted technicians to grace the Premier League.
While others may possess better numbers when it comes to scoring goals and providing them, Silva’s effortless ability to glide away from defenders has been a joy to watch throughout his time in England.
Beloved by Manchester City supporters, no one has a bad word to say about City’s favourite Spanish son.
