호그와트는 미네르바 맥고나걸을 기쁘게 받아주었습니다.
미네르바는 몸이 부서지듯이 일에 열중했으며, 엄격하지만 학생들에게 귀감이 되는 선생님이라는 걸 증명했습니다.
그녀는 두걸 맥그리거의 편지를 침대 아래에 몰래 숨겨두는것이
(그와 결혼해서) 지팡이를 숨겨두고 사는 것보단 낫다고 자기 자신을 굳게 다독이곤 했습니다.
그럼에도 불구하고 눈치없는 어머니 이사벨에게서 온 시시콜콜한 편지 중간에 있던
두걸이 다른 농부의 딸과 결혼했다는 소식은 그녀에게 엄청난 충격이었죠.
알버스 덤블도어는 그날 밤 늦게 교실 구석에서 울고있는 미네르바를 발견했고,
그녀는 덤블도어에게 모든 것을 털어놓습니다.

이제 늙어 흰머리가 성성한 엘핀스톤은
볼드모트가 사라진 그해 여름, 호그와트로 미네르바를 찾아와
여름날의 호숫가에서 다시 청혼을 합니다.
이번에는 미네르바가 청혼을 받아들였습니다.
마법부 일에서 은퇴했던 엘핀스톤은 기뻐서 어쩔 줄을 몰라하더니

일에 온 힘을 다 쏟아부었고 덤블도어를 제외한 대부분의 사람들은
그녀가 얼마나 고통스러워 했는지 알지 못했습니다.

Minerva - always something of a feminist -announced that she would be keeping her own name upon marriage.
Traditionalistssniffed - why was Minerva refusing to accept a pure-blood name, and keepingthat of her Muggle father?
The marriage (cut tragically short,though it was destined to be) was a very happy one.
Though they had no childrenof their own, Minerva’s nieces and nephews (children of her brothers Malcolmand Robert)
were frequent visitors to their home. This was a period of greatfulfillment for Minerva.
The accidental death of Elphinstone froma Venomous Tentacula bite, three years into their marriage, was an enormoussorrow to all who knew the couple.
Minerva could not bear to remain alone intheir cottage,
but packed her things after Elphinstone’s funeral and returnedto her sparse stone-floored bedroom in Hogwarts Castle,
accessible through aconcealed door in the wall of her first-floor study.
Always a very brave and privateperson, she poured all her energies into her work,
and few people - exceptingperhaps Albus Dumbledore - ever realised how much she suffered.
